Arranged Marriage vs Forced Marriage
Arranged marriage is when a groom and a bride are selected by both families, which are planned and agreed to get married. Each partner is asked if he/she is willing to enter marriage with each other. If they agree, the "contract" is sealed by declaration and consent, in the presence of two witnesses. This is to protect his/her rights in case of divorce, which is accepted in the Koran. The man and the women do not get to choose who they want to marry, that is up to the family. It is either they accept it or not, but they cannot choose. The couple must learn to love each other, which sometimes works out. In some cases the arranged couple don’t get to meet until the day of their wedding or the day before. Forced marriage is when a man and/or women are forced to marry a person, by using threats, fraud, bribes, etc. . It is arranged against the will of the person. This is against the teachings of Koran. And usually when the son or daughter refuses to marry, what has been chosen for them, they will get killed or disowned.
